This fall, it feels like every single one of my auto-buy authors is coming out with a new book as a special treat just for me. Obviously, that’s just how book contracts and the publishing process work, but I’m beyond excited all the same! Between long-awaited sequels, brand-new fantasy worlds, and, naturally, more than one pirate book, my fall TBR is looking very full. Here are the books I’m most excited to get my hands on this season.
The Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon. If you’ve read any of my blog posts or watched any of my videos that mention Deep as the Sky, Red as the Sea, you know how much I eat up anything about pirates. Frozen River was a great historical fiction read, so I’m looking forward to seeing how my second Ariel Lawhon book pans out.
The Knave and the Moon by Rachel Gillig. I’ve absolutely adored every book Rachel Gillig has ever written. She’s so incredibly creative, which seems to be getting rarer as most romantasy books have started to feel the same to me. The Knight and the Moth (the first book in the duology) left us on such a cliffhanger that I’ve been counting down the days until we find out what happens next.
Tempest by Victoria Aveyard. More pirates!! Even if Tempest were full of landlubbers, though, I’d still read it. Victoria Aveyard has a habit of writing action-packed bangers, between the Red Queen and Realm Breaker series, and I know Tempest will be no different.
Taipei Story by R.F. Kuang. I’m obsessed with R.F. Kuang’s brain. I was lucky enough to attend a release event for Katabasis, her release from last year, and let me tell you, this woman is an utter genius. She draws on her insane academic background for her fantasy novels, and they’re so mind-bending that I’m always thinking about them for months afterward.
Dead Beat by Leigh Bardugo. I’m such a sucker for dark academia; y’all have no idea. The Ninth House trilogy is the perfect dark academia fantasy read for autumn, and seeing that the third book is finally coming out was such a pleasant surprise.
Victorious by V.E. Schwab. When I tell you I have been waiting YEARS for this book, I’m not being overdramatic for once. Vicious came out in 2013 and Vengeful came out in 2018, so I’ve been emotionally invested in Victor and Eli since I was 15 years old. I’ve missed the chaos.
A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Harmony by Sarah J. Maas. Okay, I’m so excited for these releases, with one caveat: if I have to read 350+ pages about Elain Archeron, I’m throwing my book across the room. She’s one of my least favorite characters of all time, and I won’t be taking questions. Regardless, I can’t wait to see how it all wraps up.
Clearly, I have a lot of reading to do this fall. Between pirates, romantasy, dark academia, and some long-awaited sequels, I’m expecting my TBR to be completely out of control by the time winter rolls around. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way. Now I just need to figure out how I’m supposed to read all of these books fast enough!
